From Engineer To Appraiser
It all started when...
Growing up in McKinney, TX, my life was a whirlwind of sports. Baseball was my passion, but I also dabbled in basketball, football and golf for good measure. When I wasn’t hitting home runs, you could find me knee-deep in puzzles or tinkering with the latest gadgets. I finished my baseball career in high school, shifting gears to focus on academics. Little did I know, these experiences would set me on an exciting path, ultimately leading me to Texas A&M.
Everything changed when...
As I approached graduation at Texas A&M, the weight of my computer engineering degree felt heavier than I anticipated. Late nights spent studying algorithms and crunching numbers built up pressure, and I could feel myself nearing a breaking point. The thought of spending my career hunched over a desk, lost in endless lines of code, sent waves of panic through me. I wanted more than a monotonous 9-to-5; I craved a life filled with connection and engagement. This stark realization ignited a transformative moment that propelled me to seek a different path. I began searching for a job that would allow me to engage with people while utilizing my technical knowledge. I found a role that took me across the U.S. week in, week out, and for over two years, I traveled the country, merging my love for technology with meaningful interactions,
One of the turning points was
After traveling for over 40 weeks a year, the grueling schedule stripped away any hope of a social or family life, leaving me feeling isolated and drained. Realizing I needed a change, I turned to my dad, who had spent most of my life in real estate; his suggestion to enter the industry felt like a lifeline, opening the door to a new path where I could balance my career with meaningful connections.
Little did I know...
Stepping into the real estate industry as a loan originator and assistant opened my eyes to the relentless pursuit for the next deal that many professionals were caught up in. Days blurred together as I observed colleagues working tirelessly to expand their networks, always in search of the next opportunity. However, while assisting a high-producing loan officer, I discovered immense joy in being the detail-oriented person who kept everything moving smoothly. I thrived on the intricate nuances of the loan process, ensuring every step was executed flawlessly.
It was during this busy time that I had my “aha” moment: my true gifting lay in optimizing processes with many intricate pieces rather than networking, doing outreach, and ultimately closing the deal. No more trying to stick a square peg in a round hole; I learned that success isn’t solely about relentless pursuit - it's about harnessing your strengths to enhance and improve what already exists.
Then, things finally turned around...
With my exposure to real estate from a young age and years of experience in the mortgage industry, I felt ready to embrace my next challenge. The turning point was clear: I set my sights on appraising, a field that would leverage all the knowledge I had gathered while harnessing the skills I had honed over a lifetime. This new direction felt like a natural progression, allowing me to reconcile my past experiences with my aspirations for the future. It was not just a career move; it was the next chapter of my story—a chance to blend my logical approach, grounded in my engineering degree from Texas A&M, with my deep understanding of real estate. With newfound clarity, I was ready to face the future, confident in my ability to navigate this path and support others in their own journeys.
